If you're seeing an "Add Sensor Error" message when trying to set up a SensorPush sensor, it means the app is having trouble establishing a connection with your sensor. This can happen for several reasons, most of which are easy to fix.
Make Sure Bluetooth is Enabled (In Two Places)
The first thing to check is that Bluetooth is turned on, and this actually needs to be verified in two places. First, check that Bluetooth is enabled in your phone's main settings. The second place to check is inside the SensorPush app itself. The app has its own Bluetooth toggle that can be turned off independently of your phone's Bluetooth. To check this, open the SensorPush app, tap the settings button in the top-left corner of the main "Devices" screen, and look for the Bluetooth switch in the Configuration section.
Check the Battery
A depleted or improperly installed battery is another common cause of the Add Sensor Error. SensorPush sensors use a CR2477 coin cell battery that typically lasts one to two years. When replacing the battery, pay close attention to the orientation. It's also important to use a quality battery from a reliable brand. We recommend Panasonic, Murata, Duracell, or Toshiba.
Multiple Sensors Nearby During Pairing
The SensorPush app uses Bluetooth proximity to detect which sensor you're trying to add. If you have multiple sensors nearby when you're trying to pair a new one, the app might get confused. The solution is simple: move your other sensors to another room, or at least 20-30 feet away, before attempting to add a new sensor.
Try the Re-Add Process
Sometimes sensors need to be reactivated by going through the pairing process again. Start by rebooting your phone. Then make sure Bluetooth is on both in your phone's settings and inside the SensorPush app. Return to the main "Devices" screen in the app and tap the add button. Select "Add Sensor" and follow the prompts.
You don't need to delete the existing sensor record from your app before doing this. If the sensor was previously paired, the app might say "already paired as [sensor name]" - this means the sensor was found and reactivated.
The "Already Paired" Message
If you see an "already paired" message when you're sure you're trying to add a new sensor, it usually means the sensors are too close together during pairing and the app detected one of your existing sensors instead of the new one. To sort out which sensor is which, take each sensor one at a time to a location isolated from the others, like another room. Try to add that sensor while it's away from the others.
When It's a Hardware Problem
If you've tried all the steps above and the sensor still won't connect, please contact us at support@sensorpush.com and we'll be happy to help. Include your sensor model (HT1, HT.w, or HTP.xw), your phone's operating system, and any other details about what you've tried.
