Some SensorPush sensors (e.g. HTP.xw) are now able to measure barometric pressure. However, the SensorPush app needs a little additional configuration to view the data. This is because there are two modes of pressure that are commonly used.
Station pressure is the actual air pressure as measured at the sensor. This is commonly used for things like calculating air density for tuning a carburetor or performing ballistics calculations.
Meteorological pressure is adjusted to remove the effect of altitude and adjust to what the pressure would be at sea level. This helps meteorologists meaningfully compare air pressure as weather systems move across areas of varying altitude. This mode corresponds to what you are likely to see on a weather report or forecast.
To enable barometric pressure:
- Tap the sensor in the main devices list
- On the screen with graphs that appears, tap the configure button in the top right corner
- Scroll down to barometric pressure. If you don't see barometric pressure, please confirm that your sensor offers barometric pressure readings (e.g. is an HTP.xw) and that you have the correct sensor selected
- Turn on the toggle next to barometric pressure
- At the bottom of the section that appears, you will find a mode switch. Select station or meteorological mode
- If you select meteorological mode, the SensorPush app needs the altitude of the sensor. You can enter it manually, or on iOS you can also tap "use current" to get the altitude from the device's location services. Because of the way Android reports altitude, this feature is not currently available on Android devices
Once these steps are complete, barometric pressure will function just like temperature, humidity, or other measurements in the SensorPush app. Also, just like the other measurements, the settings only control the display of the data. So even if you have had them turned off, they're still recorded in the background and available for later analysis.
